Nap Eyes (Halifax, Nova Scotia)
Nap Eyes’ metamorphic fifth long-player collects a cache of nine fascinating songs recorded over the four years since Snapshot of a Beginner. The Neon Gate reveals classic touchstones (the uneasy interplay of physics and philosophy, perambulatory meditations, self-interrogating soliloquies, apertures of surreality, video games), but also evidence of divergent impulses toward nonlinear abstraction and longform improvisational composition (resulting in their most discursive, deconstructed, and deliquescent songs to date) and narrative and lyric formality (including adaptations of thorny poems by Alexander Pushkin and W. B. Yeats), imparting the sense that Nap Eyes have transmuted, as has their understanding of what a song is, what it can do, where it might go.

Barbara (Denver, Colorado)
Barbara is a band. The Denver trio enjoys making sounds about feelings that come from things like turning seven at a roller rink, watching Freaks & Geeks, and accidentally taking too many drugs. From shoegaze to gritty psychedelia, Barbara remains wobbly and dreamy at their core. After getting their feet wet with their first album Escape Artist, Barbara has been touring, playing festivals, and recording their sophomore album with Connor Birch of Flaural and James Barone of Beach House.

Alex MacNeil & the Revenants (Yukon/Halifax)
From Nova Scotia’s rugged coastline to the untamed wilds of Dawson City, Yukon, Alex MacNeil has left an indelible mark on Canada’s DIY rock scene from coast to coast. Former frontman of Alexander & The Great Ones and sideman to acclaimed acts like Willie Stratton and Braden Lam, Alex now ventures into uncharted territory with his new band, Alex MacNeil and The Revenants. This four-piece powerhouse exudes Yukon powerpop charm.
