La Sécurité

Fun-but-freaky art-rockers La Sécurité make music for studio freaks cutting loose at a basement party. All wiggles and itch, the band layers bouncy bass lines, overheated synths and guitar yelps for an adrenaline-laden trip through outré rock styles.

Fresh Wax

After spending most of their lives playing music together in Calgary, Lachlan Cowan and Edan Harmsen moved to Montreal and recently released their debut album as Fresh Wax. Reminiscent of the acclaimed early-’00s noise-rock scene of their new hometown, their driving bass lines, frenetic drumming and discordant synthesizers are rooted in experimental pop music.

Rip Room

Rip Room delivers a furious, dizzying brand of art-laden post-punk to Sled Island 2023, a sound which feels at home in Calgary. 2022’s full-length release, Alight and Resound, provides a foundation of merciless percussion, stabbing guitar hooks and shouted vocals to get you out of your seat and into the pit.

Bog Bodies

Calgary duo Bog Bodies has made sharp, short bursts of punk since 2014. Its sound is best described as a combination of a sneering snarl, super-fuzzy distortion and lo-fi electronic elements served up at a herky-jerky pace. 2019 LP P.L.A.Y.T.H.I.N.G. perfectly showcases the act’s crack blend of minimalism and experimentalism.
