MOONBEAN (Toronto)
MOONBEAN is a queer, Toronto-based electronic duo who lace their live, synth hardware set with lush vocals. Their experimental synth-pop weaves in psychedelia, acid-house, techno, and disco, while their performance style harkens to a punk aesthetic.
Speaking to identity expression, sexual orientation, inclusivity, consent, and community their lyrics weave mantras to empower their audience. Although their music is electronic, MOONBEAN plays an all-live hardware set which leaves room for improvisation and audience engagement.
Their musical inspirations align with Little Dragon, Peaches, Metric, and Eurythmics. MOONBEAN’s music is innovative in the way that it tricks you into feeling something nostalgic but by the end of the show, you realize it is unlike anything you’ve heard before. In the past 2 years, they released their debut EP and singles, and played festivals/toured around Canada, as well as 2 European Tours.
